Thinking outside the box, politically
Who's your favorite "what if" candidate for the presidency in 2028? Here's mine.
Want to have some fun? What to think politically outside the box?
OK. Just imagine that somehow, perhaps miraculously, over the course of the next two years, the bitterly partisan political categories break down, and by the presidential election of 2028, the American people want something entirely new: Not a party regular, not a professional politician at all, but a prominent and respected figure who could inspire confidence and establish a new model of leadership.
Who’s your candidate?
The rules:
- The candidate should be a real person, legally eligible for the presidency, but not to date associated with political affairs.
- He (or she) should be prominent enough to generate publicity, have a likeable public image, and show good communication skills.
- He should stand for, and encourage, what it best in the American spirit, making voters proud of our country and proud to support him. He should have a track record of speaking common sense and taking interest in the daily challenges that ordinary people face.
- Note: Since your candidate has not been involved in political affairs, it is understood that you may not be acquainted with his thoughts on key issues, and may withdraw your “endorsement” if you learn that he has objectionable ideas.
My candidate is Mike Rowe. Your turn.

Joe Gibbs, former Redskins coach (1981-92, 2004-07). A sincere Protestant Christian who helped the pro-life movement in Virginia. Also ran a championship NASCAR operation. Which I actually think does show some ability at executive leadership that could transcend sports. Have actually considered writing him in before, but never pulled the trigger.
Who was the "What if" candidate in 2015? He had a TV following like Mike Rowe. How about Michael Knowles https://x.com/michaeljknowles
