The Fall of the Wall for me as well – I “never expected to see it” right up to September 1989, when I met László Paskai, Archbishop of Esztergom and the Cardinal Primate of Hungary, in Boston.

The only language we had in common was German. I couldn’t believe that I’d understood him correctly when he patiently explained to me that it was going to happen, and why it was going to happen.

And two months later, it did.
